Megan Walsh’s freakish own goal with just 18 seconds on the clock gave Albion an uphill task straight away but Aileen Whelan levelled the scores just before the break and Powell believes her side could feel a tad unfortunate not to claim all three points.

She said, “It was a very good point and I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t actually win the game, but if you’d said to me that we’d get a draw beforehand, then I’d probably have taken that.

“It was a freakish first goal and were a bit unlucky in that sense, but we steadied the ship, didn’t let it unnerve us too much and I felt we got better and better as the game wore on.

“We got stronger, created some good goalscoring opportunities and I’m not sure that they had many either.

“Overall, I’m really proud of the players with the way they came back, and it was a well-deserved point in the end.”

The Albion manager praised the players for their tactical discipline throughout the match, and was pleased that they managed to produce another impressive display.

“Credit to the players, we worked very hard during the week to understand how we want to defend and be mindful of their quality.

“Our previous experience of what was a fine performance against them in the Conti Cup gave us real belief that we could get something today. We tried to win the game, and I thought every player played their part.

“We put in another good performance and managed to get another good point.”
