Yesterday, Barber shared his thoughts on the first half of the current season, and today he gives fans an insight into the investment being made off the pitch, into the club’s infrastructure.

Albion are ploughing further funds into developing the club’s training centre in Lancing, West Sussex, and Barber says this investment will be significant to both the men’s and women’s teams.

“We are in the process of spending £25m at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, and part of that development will enable us to headquarter our women’s and girls’ facility on the same site.

“We are committing to an area of the game — women's and girls’ football — that we really believe in. Hope Powell and the team are getting some good results and we are seeing girls come through our regional talent centre that will provide players for the future.

“We’re also improving the facilities for the men’s first team so they can prepare and recover from games even better.

“Football clubs are in a constant process of innovation, investment and progress, and hopefully this brings stability. It all takes significant investment, and we’re very lucky that Tony continues to help us with that."

Meanwhile, the Albion chief executive and deputy chairman has also revealed the club is looking at ways in which they can squeeze in some additional seats at the American Express Community Stadium.

Paul Barber spoke about the possibility of expanding the Amex.

The club has sold out virtually every Premier League fixture over the past three seasons, with upcoming games against Sheffield United, AFC Bournemouth, Chelsea and Aston Villa either already sold out, or approaching a sell out.

Barber added, “One of the most important things for us is to try and get as many fans as possible into the stadium.

“We are constantly looking to add seats to various places because we have a waiting list of 8,000 and we want to try and get as many of those people in as we can. But it’s not just the stadium capacity that we want to improve, but the fan experience on a matchday as well.

“We have upgraded the Wifi because we know how important it is, particularly for young fans. Outside we’re trying to find a way of putting extra toilets in.

“They may seem small things, but overall they are important to making the experience as good as it can be when people come to the Amex, so that they keep coming back.”
