The week ahead: PL2, Senior Cup, Continental Cup and FAWSL action!

There’s another bumper week of Albion action in store across the next seven days, with our under-23 team facing three matches this week, while our women’s side also has two games in the space of five days.

The under-23s are back in action at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre on Friday.

It all begins tonight at the Compton Park Training Ground, as Albion’s under-23s face Wolves in a Premier League 2 encounter.

Monday 9th December: Wolves under-23s v Albion under-23s, kick-off 7pm

Simon Rusk’s side turn their attention back to their league campaign with a match away at Wolves tonight.

It’s their first match since bowing out of the Leasing.com Trophy eight days ago, losing 5-4 on penalties to Newport County with the scores level at 0-0 after 90 minutes.

U21 Highlights: Albion 0 Newport 0 (Newport win 5-4 on pens)

The Seagulls sit seventh in the table with 15 points from 11 games, while tonight’s hosts are tenth with 10 points from 11 matches.

The reverse fixture between tonight’s two sides came on the opening day of the campaign, as Aaron Connolly's brace gave Rusk’s side a 2-0 home win.

Wolves will be streaming tonight’s game for free on WolvesTV.

Tuesday 10th December: Burgess Hill Town v Albion under-23s, kick-off 7.30pm

Albion continue their Sussex Senior Cup campaign with a match away against Burgess Hill Town at the Green Elephants Stadium.

The Seagulls booked their place in round three after edging out a five-goal thriller away at Hastings United, beating the Isthmian League South East Division side 3-2.

The Hillians, who are coached by former Albion women’s first-team manager Jay Lovett, advanced to the third round after a thrilling 6-3 victory over East Grinstead Town.

Admission on the gate is priced at £10 for adults, £6 for concessions and free for under-18s.

Wednesday 11th December: London City Lionesses v Albion, kick-off 7.30pm

Hope Powell’s side play their Continental League Cup group stages match away at London City Lionesses at Princes Park in Dartford.

Albion currently occupy the second qualification spot in Group B with eight points from four games, and know that a win will guarantee progress into the knockout stages of the competition.

Women's Highlights: Spurs 1 Albion 0

Powell’s team were in FA Women’s Super League action on Sunday and will be looking to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at The Hive.

Friday 13th December: Albion under-23s v Arsenal under-23s, kick-off 7pm

Albion play their second Premier League 2 fixture in the space of a week when they welcome Arsenal to the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre on Friday.

It is the final league match of the calendar year for Rusk’s team, and their second match of the season against the Gunners.

U23 goals: Arsenal 2 Albion 1

The two sides last met at Meadow Park back in August, as the hosts ran out 2-1 winners in north London. Ryan Longman was on target that day, but earlier goals from Nathan Tormey and Emile Smith Rowe gave all three points to the hosts.

Sunday 15th December: Manchester City v Albion, kick-off 12.30pm

Powell’s team will end 2019 with a trip to the Academy Stadium for a match against FAWSL title-chasing Manchester City.

City have won seven and lost two of their nine FAWSL fixtures to date, and are currently third, three points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

Tickets for the match can be bought online now, and are priced at £6.50 for adults, £4.50 for concessions and under-16s, and £2.50 for standing tickets.
