It was Albion’s first-ever away win against the Gunners, and Potter highlighted the importance of not underestimating the incredible journey which the club has been on in recent years.

He said, “It was great, and of course we should celebrate getting three points in the Premier League.

“This club has an understanding of where it's come from. We sit here in this Premier League world, but our supporters and a lot of people in the club understand where the club has come from and where it is in the hierarchy in the Premier League.

“That doesn't mean to say that we can't win at these places, and getting the feeling of winning a game here.

“We need have to have that mentality, and that's what we try to work with all the time.”

The result was the first time that Albion had beaten ‘big six’ opposition in the Premier League in 17 attempts, and Potter said the result was a reward to the fans following a number of difficult games on the road against the division’s top teams.

“I’m delighted for the players, and delighted for the supporters. They have probably suffered a few times on the road at the top-six teams, so it was nice for them to celebrate getting three points with the players.”
