Graham Potter is all smiles with the media on Thursday.

The Seagulls head north to Merseyside tomorrow afternoon to take on the unbeaten league leaders, and the boss spoke about the prospect of going to one of the world’s most iconic footballing venues.

He said, "We’ll have to embrace the challenge and everything it brings. Teams like Barcelona will go there and they’ll tell you that it’s a big atmosphere.

"The supporters get properly behind the team - there’s a real history and tradition to it which makes it a special place. The environment can be really powerful, but that’s one of the big challenges for us to rise to.

"It’s all part of what we have to do to get a result. You have to deal with everything that surrounds the game as well as what happens out on the field."

Potter's Liverpool press conference

Jurgen Klopp’s men sit eight points clear of second-placed Leicester City ahead of tomorrow’s game, and the Albion head coach praised their consistency and success of recent years.

"We have to play well and hope they have an off day – but we can influence that, and we certainly have to be better than we have been in the last couple of weeks,” Potter continued.

"I have no idea who’ll win the league and it’s hard to say in November who’ll do what – but clearly they’ve been fantastic up until this point of the season.

"Their points record over the last few years has been amazing – to maintain that and fight for the Champions League is incredible from them. I think whoever wants to win the league will have to get themselves above Liverpool."

The boss also reserved praise for young midfielder Steven Alzate when he met the media on Thursday afternoon, emphasising the fact that his rise through the leagues to the top-flight is one that’s not uncommon within the game.

"I’ve said before from day one that he’s really impressed us with his personality and his quality on the pitch. Sometimes as a younger player you can look okay in pre-season and then maybe fade away a little bit.

"He’s not done that. When you speak to all the boys, he’s earned their respect from his daily performances on the training ground. His story is one of those that’s great for football and great for young players.

"There are great players in the system that haven't quite made the step into the first team or not quite played where they want to play and they stick at it because things change in football. There’s a Steven Alzate story, I’m pretty sure, at every football club."
