Burn wary of 'like-minded' Norwich threat

Dan Burn has stressed the importance of not underestimating tomorrow afternoon’s visitors to the Amex Stadium, as Norwich City head to the south coast looking to register their first away win of the Premier League campaign following promotion last term.

Daniel Farke’s men were on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Carrow Road last weekend, but Albion’s defender praised this weekend’s opposition ahead of the contest tomorrow and spoke about the threats and dangers they pose.

He said, “You can’t underestimate them by any means, in many ways their style is similar to what we’re trying to do ourselves. They like to play out too and it should be a good game on the eye, hopefully we have the quality to come out on top.

“Those tactics take bravery and courage, especially when you’re new to the division like they are. That’s the way football is going now and it’s what fans enjoy watching.

“They’ve got a lot of the core of the side that they had last year in the league below, that can really help in terms of morale and an understanding of the way you’re trying to play. Everyone knows their job, they’ve had some good results and some not so good ones, so they’ll be coming here seeing it as an opportunity to bounce back.”

Extended Highlights: Albion 3 Everton 2

The Seagulls were 3-2 winners over Everton last weekend on the south coast, with Burn playing a key role in the side’s injury-time winner, as Lucas Digne turned the ball into his own net following an impressive free-flowing counter attack.

The defender reflected on the victory over the Toffees at the Amex and applauded Graham Potter’s men for sticking to their footballing principles in the final stages of the contest.

“The mood’s been good this week and to win the match last Saturday in the manner that we did obviously left a really good feeling in the group,” Burn continued.

“We’d had a few of those sorts of moments go against us in weeks beforehand, so it was nice for it to go the other way this time around. The third was a really good team goal and it just shows what we’ve been trying to do since the new head coach has arrived.

“To stick to it in injury time when the game is close and execute a move like that so well really does speak volumes. We should be higher up in the table, we’ve been saying it all season but we have played really well in some matches and there’s only a few matches where you can say that teams have been better than us.

“We have a belief that we can win a game at any point, in that moment the crowd were really behind us and we took the opportunity and got a little bit of luck as well. It gives us more belief and confidence in what we’re doing and shows that we can always get results.”

The feeling at full-time against Marco Silva’s men was decidedly different to the one Albion had at Villa Park seven days earlier, and Burn discussed the team’s evaluation of the 2-1 defeat in the Midlands following Matt Targett’s last-minute winner for the hosts.

“We always analyse the previous match early on in the week, and when we looked back at the defeat to Aston Villa we picked up on the number of chances we had, even being a man down for a big part of the game.

“We saw we outplayed them for most of the game, so we knew we were along the right lines. The game with Everton probably wasn’t our best of the season, but it did show that we can do the other side of the game and win when we’re not necessarily at our best.

“Home form is going to be massive this year and we’re pleased with our last two victories at the Amex. The away games are always tough and we have a tough few games on the road in the near future, so this weekend is another good opportunity to get some points on the board with the fans behind us.”
