Fitzsimons will lead the footballing side of a programme, which offers players the chance to combine their education alongside pursuing a career in the game.

Women’s first-team manager, Hope Powell, said, “This is excellent news, and we are thrilled to welcome someone of Sinead’s calibre to the club.

“She is an exciting young coach with a proven track record in developing young footballers, and will be a valuable addition to an already multi-talented team that we have at the club.

“On behalf of everyone here, I would like to wish Sinead every success in the role.”

Fitzsimons spent her playing days at Millwall Lionesses and progressed from the club’s centre of excellence all the way through to the first team, before an injury curtailed her career.

She took up coaching at the age of 19 and subsequently went on to work with the club’s under-13, under-15 and under-17 age groups.

The coach then took on the role of first-team assistant manager, before becoming head of youth at London City Lionesses following their dissociation from Millwall.
