The 18-year-old fired home his second and third goals of the campaign, before unselfishly teeing up Lorent Tolaj for Albion’s fourth of the night against Spurs, and Longman reflected on a brilliant week of Amex appearances.

He said, “The team performance was really good [vs Tottenham] and a lot of individuals played really well, which made the team play well as a collective.

“I could have scored a hat-trick, but got two goals and an assist instead. It was a great performance from the team after a hard first half.

“We came out strongly in the second half and managed to finish the game off.

“It’s been a great week. I was hoping to come on [in the Carabao Cup] and was over the moon when I did.

Ryan Longman replaced Aaron Connolly for his senior debut against Aston Villa

With Steven Alzate and Aaron Connolly making their Premier League debuts in recent weeks, Longman commented on the inspiration he and his team-mates can take from knowing a pathway is there.

“It gives you hope and something to strive towards. You see these players that you were playing with are joining the first team and then starting for them.

“It makes you feel like you can be there as well, so that’s the plan. I just need to keep working hard and get my head down — that’s all I can do.

“I’ve been at the club for about eight years now, and I’m really glad to be making those steps towards my ultimate goal.”
