Despite our best efforts to disrupt Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking side in the north west, the reigning Premier League champions scored four goals to win the game, but Potter was left feeling far from disheartened.
He said, “The season isn’t defined on how you do at Manchester City, to be honest, it’s about how you keep improving along the way, and that’s what we have to do.
“Belief is growing amongst the players, but it’s the Premier League and we know every game is so, so difficult.

“We’ve got a home game after the international break — we’ll reflect on this period of work, but I have to thank the players for the effort they’ve put in.
“The coach can say whatever, but it’s about convincing the players that something is worth doing.
“They’ve shown honesty and courage to try and do what we’ve asked them to do. Now we have to look at what we can do better and improve.”
Leandro Trossard was on the end of two good opportunities at the Etihad, but was unable to add to his goal against West Ham United, and Potter is focused on sharpening the Belgian’s attributes after positive early signs in the Premier League.
“He’s come from another country and he’s adapting to the league, while also adapting to life in England with his family.
“He’s getting into great spaces and having opportunities, but it’s the final bit that’s the most difficult thing — it’s what separates the top teams from the not-so-top teams.
“He’s got a great understanding of what we’re trying to do, but we’ve got to help him improve and it’s now about finding that next bit.”
