Along with the Albion head coach, Reid oversaw some impressive development at Ostersunds, as the club progressed from the fourth tier to Sweden’s top division, winning the domestic cup and qualifying for Europe in the process.

He began with when he first got the invitation to link up with Potter in 2013, and said the opportunity was one he couldn’t turn down.

He said, “It was a real eye-opener, I was asked to go over and meet Graham Potter at Ostersunds. I knew the chairman there and I knew what I was going to, as my wife and myself wanted to make sure it was the right thing for us.

“I met Graham and spent a number of days there, watched a game and his training and I had no hesitation in accepting when he asked me to become his assistant.

“His philosophy really appealed to me, I was allowed into some meetings and I just got the feeling that something special could happen here."

During the 2017/18 campaign the team from Sweden’s quiet northern town went on a European voyage that featured wins over Galatasary, PAOK and Hertha Berlin.

It ended with a 4-2 aggregate loss to Arsenal in the last-32 stage of the competition, where the side actually won 2-1 over the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.

“Even the club getting to the top division in Sweden after where they’d come from was a massive thing in itself,” he continued.

“The people of the town had never seen the likes of Malmo and AIK in their city playing matches, and so it was huge for the people of the town to see the top Swedish players coming to their hometown for the first time.

“That first season we won the cup, it’s played at the home venue for one of the two teams in the final and we got the luck of the draw.

“The city saw the club winning their first major trophy in a full arena, so they were massive moments for the club.

“That took us to Europe and it was like a fairytale for the club and the city. We gave Arsenal in a fright in the second leg and I think that’s probably what made people sit up and take notice of Graham Potter and the work of Ostersunds football club.”

That aforementioned win over the Turkish giants Galatasary kickstarted the headline catching campaign, and Reid revealed the memorable nature of how he and the side discovered their first qualifying round opposition.

“We played them in the first qualifying round, and I remember when the draw was being made we were driving down to training in the cars with all the players listening out as to who we’d get.

“They all pumped their horns because they were a big name in Europe and it was David vs Goliath!

“We played really well at home in the first leg and kept ourselves in the game before getting two goals late on, then we had to get here and everyone knows how much of an intimidating atmosphere that can be.

“We were holding on a bit but if I felt if we could score a goal we’d settle into it, luckily enough we got ourselves a penalty which we scored and from then on we were destined to be in the next round.”
