Women Preview: Albion V Liverpool

By Jake Ketley • 23 September 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion take on Liverpool in the FA Women’s Super League this afternoon, kick-off 12.15pm.

The match marks a moment of history for the club, as it is live on BT Sport and will be the first-ever televised match for Albion's women’s team .

The Seagulls head into the match following a midweek defeat by Birmingham City. The Seagulls fell to a debatable, late first-half penalty by Aoife Mannion. Although Hope Powell’s side fought back resiliently in the second-half, they were unable to find the goal they needed.

The result means that Albion are still searching for their first FA WSL win, although they will take some confidence from the FA Continental Tyres Cup victory over London Bees last week, which saw them stay in contention for qualification to the quarter finals in that tournament.

On the other hand, today's opponents Liverpool are looking for their first win within 90 minutes this season. The Reds opened their season with a 1-0 defeat to Women’s Championship newcomers Manchester United in the Continental Tyres Cup, before being humbled 5-0 in their opening league fixture of the season by Arsenal.

Following this match, manager Neil Redfern resigned from his role with former men’s team goalkeeper Chris Kirkland taking the reins on a caretaker basis.

In his first match in charge, the former England player managed to avoid a shock defeat at the hands of Women’s Championship side Durham, coming back from 3-1 down to level at 3-3, before winning 5-4 on penalties in the Continental Tyres Cup.

Tickets will be available to purchase on the day at the Broadfield Stadium at a price of £10 for adults, £8 for under-21s and over-65s, £7 for under-18s and £4 for under-10s.
