Key Moments: Albion V West Ham United

By Harry Williams • 06 October 2018

Glenn Murray’s record-equalling 99th Albion goal was enough to secure the win for Brighton & Hove Albion, after a tough encounter against West Ham United on Friday night. Here are five key moments that entailed.

Jahanbakhsh Introduced

Alireza Jahanbakhsh was given his first league start for the Seagulls, and the winger looked bright when going forward. The Iranian played 70 minutes before being replaced by Jose Izquierdo.

Marvellous Murray

Murray’s winner saw him draw level with Kit Napier on 99 goals. In the 25th minute, Murray ghosted into the box unmarked and latched onto a cross to produce a deft finish past Lukasz Fabianski. The Seagulls forward was unlucky to not beat the record after putting two chances narrowly over the bar.

Izquierdo Impact

Izquierdo made an immediate impact on his return to the side when introduced midway through the second half. The forward showed a tremendous amount of positivity, driving forward every time he retrieved the ball and even played a part in the offside goal.

Unlucky Locadia

Substitute Jurgen Locadia thought he had doubled his side's lead late on only to be flagged offside. Izquierdo’s original shot was parried by Fabianski into the path of the Dutchman, who tapped in from close range.

Arnautovic’s chance

Marko Arnautovic had a chance to equalise in injury time but sent his effort sailing over the bar, much to the home crowd's relief. After Lucas Perez weaved his way to the byline, the Spaniard cut back the ball for Arnautovic, but the Austrian couldn't take advantage of the Hammers' best chance of the match.
