Albion head coach proud after dramatic late fightback

A dramatic afternoon at St Andrew's saw Arturo Ruiz's side recover from two goals down to earn a point against Birmingham City in the WSL on Sunday.

Olivia Garcia came off the bench to spark the comeback, before Kiko Seike secured the draw with the final kick of the match to make it 2-2.

The Albion boss praised the team's resilience and determination to chase the equaliser.

He said: “The team have a high-performance mentality, and we want to win every single game. We were really excited and motivated to win here.

“We need to watch it with perspective because we are building. We need to keep building because we need time with this style of game and these ideas.

“I'm very proud of the girls. The last goal was pretty much the result of the performance that we did. Obviously, we have a lot to get better at and a lot to correct, but we are building, and I'm really looking forward to keeping building with this incredible team.”

This was Ruiz’s second game in charge of the Albion, and the Spaniard said elements of his style of play were evident in the performance.

He added: “I liked a lot of things. First of all, the way we behave every day at the training ground.

“That's the most important thing, to keep balance, to keep going in the same direction. I will take care of keeping everybody motivated because we all want to have a very good season.

“This is only the start, and we need to keep building to become a really good team."

He also recognised the efforts of the travelling support and underlined their role in creating a home-from-home atmosphere.

“We felt sometimes that we were playing at home, all of them making noise, giving 100% for us and pushing for us - so thank you so much to them.

“I hope to see them next Sunday at the Amex because it's going to be a great game.”
