Fabian Hurzeler praised his side’s togetherness and belief after they picked up their fourth win in six Premier League games with a 2-0 victory at Sunderland.
Three weeks after his team had swept aside champions Arsenal, Hurzeler saw Albion show different qualities after they played the last half-hour with ten men when Pascal Struijk was sent off. Goals either side of the dismissal by Maxim De Cuyper and Jaouen Hadjam, on his Premier League debut, did the trick.
It is the first time in eight years that Albion have won three successive Premier League matches.
“I have to praise my players. I think it was a different performance (to Arsenal) because we had different circumstances. We had to face different adversities, but overall the players reacted really well,” he said.
“They defended really good as a team. Also, after the red card we had a really good defensive mindset. And on top of that, we had really good subs who made an impact when they came into the game.
“We showed that togetherness, and I think it was a deserved win. They really stick together, and they face adversity no matter how tough it is.”

Hurzeler felt Struijk’s red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity was “harsh” but he thought his side defended the lead De Cuyper had given them a few minutes earlier impressively.
“They were brilliant today in terms of doing the basics well like defending the box. No matter if you're one man down or not, but especially when you're one man down, you have to do it even more so. So that was very good,” he added.
Albion remain third in the table ahead of the start of the Conference League campaign on Thursday against Kauno Zalgiris.
“For us the table is not that important in this moment. For us, it's very important that we talk about this belief in our quality and in our teammates," he added.
“It's about focusing on performances, having the desire to keep improving and showing the mindset that we can get better from week to week and develop as individuals and as a team.”
