Fabian Hurzeler felt Albion ‘deserved more’ after losing 2-0 to two Hugo Ekitike goals against Liverpool at Anfield.
Albion had some great chances to score after conceding inside a minute and Diego Gomez hit the post early in the second half with the best of them, but they couldn’t find a way past Alisson Becker.
Hurzeler said, “We deserved more, maybe even a win because we created so many chances. We didn’t have the best start to the game but I thought we reacted well and then had a set-piece against us for their second goal which we didn’t defend that well.
“Overall, though, we had a lot of good moments but at the end of the day it’s about doing it consistently for 90 minutes-plus, not just in some phases of the game and that’s why we lost.

“We have to take responsibility. It was a game there for us to win and the performance was there, but that’s football. There are some days when you create chance after chance and don’t score. We are all disappointed but we will try to be positive, analyse the game and do better next time.”
One positive for Albion was Kaoru Mitoma’s return as a second-half substitute.
“Availability creates competition for places and then everyone stays alert for 90 minutes so it’s good to be getting players back," added Hurzeler. "Kaoru is in a good place and now it’s about him getting into his best possible shape. It was always the plan for him to only play 30 minutes today.”
