Cup success makes it two wins from three in opening fortnight of the season.

Albion’s men’s u18s bounced back from defeat to AFC Bournemouth with a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the PLU18 Cup.

Goals from Jacob Parsons and Finn Dzekawong put Albion 2-0 up early in the second half and although the hosts pulled one back Albion deserved to win.

Coach Carl Martin said, “It was a fantastic response after Bournemouth. We looked organised without the ball, carried a genuine attacking threat and competed well throughout.

“The players showed the personality and resilience we were looking for, turning the disappointment of the Bournemouth game into a strong performance and a deserved win.”

It came after Albion beat Birmingham City 3-1 in their league opener before losing 7-4 at Bournemouth last Saturday.

Dzekawong and Brook Smith put Albion 2-0 ahead after 18 minutes and although Birmingham pulled one back Parsons made it 3-1.

Martin added, “We were a little anxious in the first 15–20 minutes, but once we settled we showed much more composure and control, particularly in our build-up.

“The second half was strong, and there were some really encouraging individual performances. It was pleasing how we grew into the game and became more confident in our approach.”

The 11-goal thriller against the Cherries saw Albion lead twice in the first half but they were 6-2 behind when they pulled back two more goals.

“A difficult result, but our biggest learning experience so far,” said Martin.

“Bournemouth pressed aggressively man-for-man, which challenged us technically, physically, and competitively. While we scored four and created good attacking moments, we were punished for individual errors and didn’t consistently defend or compete at our expected level.

"Crucially, the response from the players afterwards was excellent. They took ownership, reviewed the match, and were determined to put things right.

“Overall, there is plenty to be encouraged by across the three games. It is a young group that wants to learn, and they are beginning to understand the standards and behaviours we expect from them."
