Diego Gomez says he feels fresh and ready to tackle this weekâs double header against Manchester City.
Albion head to the Etihad on Wednesday in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup before returning on Saturday to play the Premier League leaders.Â
The Paraguay midfielderâs minutes are being managed by Fabian Hurzeler and he was left out of the squad that drew 0-0 against FK Jablonec in the UEFA Conference League last week before he returned on Sunday when Albion suffered their first defeat in ten games against Liverpool.
âWe know that these are two very difficult away games,â said the 23-year-old. âThe coach spoke to me and said he wanted to keep me back more for these matches.
âObviously I wanted to play (at Jablonec) but itâs the coachâs decision. But now I feel really fresh to tackle these games which are coming and which are very important.
âIt was the coachâs decision and I went along with his decision because I needed the rest with so many games coming up, but now Iâm focused on the games this week.â
Gomez admitted Albion needed to do better in the final third after losing 2-0 at Anfield.
âI thought we had the ball a lot in the first half and we had a lot of chances to score,â he added.Â
âWe were just missing some clarity on the final pass but we are already thinking about the next games and how to improve.
âIn the second half they had a very good, compact defence. We still kept trying to create chances but there are things to work on.â
Wednesdayâs game will be only Albionâs second meeting with City in the League Cup. They won the previous game on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Withdean in 2008.
