Brighton & Hove Albion’s week of action with UNICEF continues today with a focus on another fundamental principle within our new Child Rights Action Plan, One Goal, every child, of any ability, has the right to live a full, independent and active life in their community.
One Goal, the first action plan of its kind in sport, has been developed in partnership with UNICEF, shaped by workshops and feedback from staff, young fans, academy players and Foundation participants. The plan places children’s rights and wellbeing at the heart of the club’s decisions and long-term commitments.
Today’s focus is on the right of Children with Disabilities, and to bring this to life, we are sharing a new video featuring Chase, a long-standing participant in our Foundation programmes. Chase first joined one of our disability football sessions at the age of six, and through the support of coaches and the opportunities provided by the Foundation, he has developed from a young player to a mentor and is now working towards his coaching qualification.
As part of the One Goal commitments, Brighton & Hove Albion will create a dedicated Wellbeing Hub at the training ground, a space designed to support children of all abilities to relax, explore identity and feel comfortable being themselves.
The hub was identified during focus groups with players and staff, who highlighted the need for a supportive environment that celebrates difference and champions wellbeing.
