Bjorn Hamberg is leaving his role as head coach of our men’s under-18s to join Swedish club IF Elfsborg as their new head coach.
Hamberg, who had previously worked as first-team coach between May 2019 and September 2022, returned to the club in August 2025.
This will be his first role as a senior head coach, and while we are disappointed to lose his expertise, we know Bjorn has a desire to be a number one at senior level.
Sporting director Jason Ayto said, "Bjorn has been a well-respected and popular coach here and while we are sorry to see him leave his role with our under-18s at this time we fully support his desire to step into senior management. We wish him and his family all the very best for the future."
Academy manager Ian Buckman said, “This is a great opportunity for Bjorn to return to Sweden to become head coach of one of their leading clubs.
“In his two spells working for the club, he has been a pleasure to work with, always acting with integrity and professionalism. We wish him every success for this new challenge.”
Assistant coaches Steve Menzies and Tomer Hemed will take charge of the under-18s on an interim basis, starting with next Tuesday’s FA Youth Cup fifth round tie against Sunderland.
