Albion's WU19s fell short on Sunday when they were beaten 4-3 by Bristol City in the PGA League First Division, despite a hat-trick from Patience Fergus.
Head coach Dani Bowman reflected on the performance and the lessons taken from the match.
She said, “It was a tough test. We are pleased with our performance but disappointed with the goals conceded.
“The players showed great character to come from two down to get back to 3-3. We had another two or three good opportunities but, unfortunately, didn’t capitalise on them and Bristol scored the final goal."
Striker Patience Fergus continued her impressive form, taking her season tally to 18 goals after netting a hat-trick and Bowman highlighted her importance to the team this season.
She added, "Patience has been a real threat in front of goal and she demonstrated that again. She’s probably disappointed after scoring a hat trick away from home that we didn't win the game.
“Her development since the start this season has been good. She still has areas to work on but she’s making a name for herself in this league. We know her strengths and we have to keep playing to them. The team know what she wants."
Attention now turns to Wednesday’s away trip in the league against Durham.
“It’s a very quick turnaround," added Bowman. "The most important thing when we have games so close together is the recovery. We need to make sure they get enough rest and nutrition. We will see how the girls are tomorrow before training and go from there.
“We expect another tough test. After playing them earlier in the season we know that they have a good team who will cause problems in transition.
“We have a lot of football to play and still need to develop in certain areas and we will look to implement that on Wednesday.”
