Adam Webster could come up against his former manager in the Carabao Cup tonight and knows Albion might well be in for a tough night when they take on Mick McCarthy’s Cardiff City.
Webster made more than 50 appearances under McCarthy when he was at Ipswich between 2016-18 and has been impressed with McCarthy’s work since he took over at Cardiff, who are unbeaten in the Championship after four games of the new season.
“They've started really well, have got some threats and it’s never easy against a Mick McCarthy team,” said Webster.

“I don’t think Mick gets the credit he deserves. When I was at Ipswich, on the budget he had, he did really well. I don’t think they would have got relegated from the Championship if he’d still been there when it happened.”
Albion have also started well with two wins out of two in the Premier League, and head coach Graham Potter is looking to give some of his younger players an opportunity tonight.
“The Carabao Cup gives players the chance to show yet what they’re about, it’s another match and another chance to impress,” added Webster.
“Last season we had three League Cup games and the boys who weren’t starting in the league had an opportunity and I think that’s really important.”
