Hope Powell felt Albion were undone by a contentious penalty early in the game, but was able to take plenty of positives from a tough afternoon in Manchester.
Albion’s women’s head coach felt her side didn’t deserve to be on the end of a 3-0 deficit as they suffered their first Women’s Super League defeat of the season.
She said, “It was a difficult afternoon At times we played well and I don't think the 3-0 score reflected the game.
“There were too many unforced errors, and we lacked a bit of quality in the final third, but in terms of competing I was really pleased."
United got their first goal from the penalty spot, after Maya Le Tissier was adjudged to have fouled Alessio Russo, but Powell felt the award was harsh on Albion.
“It was not a penalty in my eyes. I am really going to look at it again. It was minimal contact, but it was given.
Both teams await a set-piece.

“When you consider the calibre of players they have, we really had a go. We didn't look out of the game, and at stages we were firmly in it, but it is about scoring goals.”
Powell and Albion face a Conti Cup tie against West Ham on Wednesday evening at Crawley, and can take plenty of positive aspects into that game.
“There are a lot of lessons we can take from today, we lost the game, but we had a go. We were not defending for 90 minutes, like we did here last year.
“It is now about adding some consistency to our passing, cutting out the unforced errors and crucially being brave enough and slick enough to find that killer pass.”
