Our men's under-21s fought valiantly but ultimately in vain as they were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool in Premier League 2 on Friday.
An early penalty saw Albion fall behind, before Yussif Owusu was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.
A spirited performance from goalkeeper Sebastian Jensen at one end and a couple of smacks of the woodwork down the other will give head coach Shannon Ruth plenty to be pleased with though.
Nehemiah Oriola's bicycle-kick found the back of the net, but the offside flag denied him what would have been a stunning equaliser. đ¸ by James Boardman.
The Reds took full advantage of being awarded a penalty after five minutes when Harry Mills bundled into the back of Josh Davidson in the box. Skipper Kieran Morrison found the bottom left corner, giving them the confidence to take control to push and probe for a second.
Jensen make crucial saves from both Morrison and Keyrol Figueroa to keep the score at 1-0, but Owusu's red card after 26 minutes on the face of it made it look as if Albion were in for a tough night.
Morrison skied an effort at the start of the second 45 before Albion found their stride. Nehemiah Oriola headed against the crossbar from Mills' left-wing cross before Jesse Middleton forced the ball back into the area and Oriola bicycle-kicked the ball past keeper Armin Pecsi, but the winger was unfortunately well offside.
Sean Keogh saw his cross hit the woodwork late on. đ¸ by James Boardman.
An attempted long-range lob from Kofi Shaw before Oriola's volley into Pecsi's arms from Noel Atom's cross made it feel as if an equaliser was inevitable, but the Reds shored up as Albion regathered their energy for a late throwing of the kitchen sink.
Jensen did superbly to get down to keep out Michael Laffey's low effort from ten yards with seven minutes to go, before substitute Sean Keogh thumped a cross unexpectedly against the crossbar. Freddie Simmonds was first to the follow up but sent the ball wide from 12 yards.
Ruth's men will have to wait a week to respond to the defeat, when they face Sunderland in Premier League 2 next Friday.
