INCREDIBLE TACKLE FROM DUNK

The assistant referee gets that all wrong as Saka is a bus ride offside but is in on goal. He gets into the box before shooting, but Dunk is somehow there to block!

BIG MISS FROM MARTINELLI

That's as good a chance as you're likely to get. The ball is crossed in by Saka from the right, it's perfectly into the path of Martinelli, but the Brazilian skies it from six yards.
77'

WORLD CLASS RAYA SAVE

That is one of the best saves you'll see this season. Georginio flicks the ball into Minteh's path in the box and the Gambian looks for all the world as if he's curled it into the top left corner, but the Arsenal keeper somehow gets fingertips to it to tip it over!

AYARI SEES TWO BLOCKED

Albion have sparked into life. Yasin Ayari has two shots from just inside the Arsenal box blocked. The pendulum has swung our way, now we need to keep it.

HINSHELWOOD'S STRIKE EASY FOR RAYA

Excellent build up from Albion as Minteh runs at the Arsenal defence before finding Wieffer on the edge of the area. He plays it into the path of Hinshelwood who hits it first time, but he doesn't catch it right and it rolls into Raya's gloves.

Yellow Card

Viktor Gyokeres chases after a ball down the left and just beats Bart Verbruggen who races out his box to get there. The keeper takes out the striker. It's a yellow card.

RICE'S VOLLEY CLEARED

Trossard counters from an Albion corner and gets to the edge of our box before crossing in. He finds Rice ten yards out, but the midfielder's volley is hit into the ground and headed away by Dunk.

GOMEZ HAS IT INTHE NET...

But the whistle had already gone for a free-kick to Arsenal. Saliba holds off Gomez and somehow the referee decides it's a free-kick to the Gunners. Gomez flicks the ball round the onrushing Raya, but it doesn't mean anything as it crosses the line.
25'

ARSENAL IN CONTROL

Mikel Arteta's team are in control of possession, as they patiently look for openings. Albion have to weather this.

TROSSARD HEADS OVER

Saka's corner finds Trossard at the near-post, but the former Albion man flicks it just over and onto the roof of the net.
4'

VERBRUGGEN SAVES AT HIS NEAR-POST

Saka gets away from De Cuyper too easily and the England international then looks to beat Verbruggen from an angle, but the keeper is well positioned and is right behind the effort. A couple of early chances for the hosts.
2'

GYOKERES WITH AN EARLY CHANCE

Trossard flicks the ball over the Albion backline and under pressure from Lewis Dunk, Viktor Gyokeres gets a shot away from the edge of the box, but he essentially passes it into the gloves of Verbruggen.

UNDERWAY

Albion get the game started.

HERE COME THE TEAMS

Lewis Dunk leads out Albion. Two former Albion men in the Arsenal team, with Viktor Gyokeres and Leandro Trossard leading the hosts' attack. Ben White misses out through injury.
Fabian Hurzeler has made three changes to the team that drew with Sunderland last weekend as Lewis Dunk, Jan Paul van Hecke and Diego Gomez come in for Mats Wieffer, Yankuba Minteh and Olivier Boscagli. Kaoru Mitoma is not named in the squad due to illness.

The Albion team to face the Gunners.
Uwe Hunemeier could do with some good company ahead of kick-off!

We are known for being a team with several players that can score goals, and we proved so far this season that a lot of players are also involved in creating goalscoring opportunities. We want to stay unpredictable, but of course, goal scorers help. But if we don't have a goal scorer on the pitch at the moment, then we have to find other solutions.

Fabian Hurzeler on finding a goalscoring solution

THE STATS

Arsenal have won just three of their eight Premier League home games against Albion (38%, D2 L3), only having a lower win rate against Wimbledon (25%) and Liverpool (36%) among sides they’ve faced 5+ times. Brighton are winless in their last four Premier League games against Arsenal (D2 L2), though they did come from behind to draw 1-1 in both meetings last season. All three of Arsenal’s Premier League home wins against Brighton have been by a 2-0 scoreline (October 2017, May 2021, December 2023), failing to win any of their five against them at the Emirates in which they’ve conceded (D2 L3). Arsenal have won each of their last five Premier League home games. Only once under Mikel Arteta have they had a longer run at the Emirates, winning 10 in a row between April and December 2022. Albion have failed to score in their last two Premier League matches, one of only two sides who failed to score on MD16 and MD17, along with Everton. The Seagulls haven’t gone three without a goal since January 2024. Arsenal sit top of the Premier League for Christmas for the fifth time along with 2002-03, 2007-08, 2022-23 and 2023-24 – they have never won the competition from that position. Two of those have been under Mikel Arteta – no manager has ever been top at Christmas three times and never then won the competition. Albion have never won a Premier League match in December under manager Fabian Hürzeler in 10 attempts (D6 L4). It’s the most games ever managed by a manager in December without winning. In their last game – a 0-0 draw with Sunderland – Brighton named the youngest starting XI in a Premier League match this season (23 years, 240 days) under the youngest manager in the competition (32 years, 297 days on 20 December), while also fielding the oldest player to appear in the competition in 2025-26 (substitute James Milner, aged 39 years and 350 days).
