The ball is cleared by Sunderland to the edge of their own box and Gruda catches it well on the volley, but sends it wide to the left of goal. We've got the bit between our teeth.

Minteh crosses in from the right of the Sunderland box and it strikes the wrist of Xhaka inside the box, but it's never a penalty, despite the home fans' initial cry for a handball. His hand is down by the side of the Swiss midfielder.

Having sent his last shot into orbit, the midfielder is actually considerably closer this time as he's found by Brajan Gruda and let's loose with a drive from inside the D, but it's a yard over the crossbar.

Boscagli chips the ball out to the wing for Veltman. The Dutchman crosses in on the volley finding Ayari in the middle, but the Sweden international gets right underneath his first time effort and puts it very, very far over the crossbar.

That's the closest either team has come to scoring and it's only the incredible reactions of Bart Verbruggen that keeps us level. Alderete gets great contact on a header from eight yards and it looks as if it's flying in, but the keeper gets an outstretched palm on it, tipping it onto the crossbar and behind for a corner!

One change for Albion at the break as Joel Veltman replaces Mats Wieffer. Albion get the second half underway.

Jack Hinshelwood's back pass is pounced on by Le Fee in the Albion box, but Verbruggen rushes off his line to block the shot from close range. The keeper then saves from Brobbey's thumped strike from the right of the box. If either team is going to grab a late opener in this half, Sunderland look the more likely.

The Gambian winger runs at the full back and then crosses in low into the six-yard box, but De Cuyper is a yard away from tapping it in. Lovely wing play from Yankuba.

That's another easy save for the keeper as Ballard rises highest to a ball in the box, and his header lands perfectly in Bart's arms.

The Dutchman goes up for a header with Simon Adingra, but he's caught by the flailing arm of the Sunderland winger. After a check for concussion, he's good to continue.

De Cuyper is brought down 25 yards from the Sunderland goal for an Albion free-kick. Gruda takes, it's in a really good position, he keeps it on the ground as it goes under the Black Cats' wall, but it's an easy one for Roefs to gather.

Alderete capitalises on Kadioglu's mistimed header on the edge of the box as he gets a shot away, but it's straight down the throat of Verbruggen.
