That was close. Dan Burn uses every inch of his frame to stretch for a cross into the box, but even he can't quite reach it. If he couldn't, nobody could. Maybe Woltemade actually.

The captain has been outstanding today. Woltemade races down the left as Newcastle break, but Dunk slides in, putting the ball out for a throw.

Verbruggen palms a corner back into the box and Guimaraes meets it, but Ferdi Kadioglu gets his foot in the way to deflect it over for a corner. This could go either way now.

Nick Woltemade equalises with a terrific touch into the bottom left corner.

VAR have a look to see if Mats Wieffer handles the ball in the box. It's not intentional, if anything it looks as if he moves his hand away from the ball. VAR agrees and Craig Pawson says play on.

Double Albion change. Stef Tzimas and James Milner replace Carlos Baleba and Georginio.

The winger runs through on goal, but under pressure from Dunk he gets under his shot and sends it into the Newcastle fans behind the goal.

Kadioglu releases De Cuyper down the left and the Belgian defender has time to pick his cross. Georginio bursts into the middle, but the ball runs through his legs and the chance goes begging! Ayari is then in on goal but looks to pass instead of shoot and Newcastle clear! Huge chances.

Bruno lets fly from the edge of the box, but van Hecke slides in to block the shot. Newcastle have had a bit of a shot in the arm here.

Albion are in the ascendancy. Kadioglu's cross is cut out but it falls for De Cuyper who smashes it at goal from an angle. Pope has to awkwardly palm it back into his six-yard box, and fortunately for him, Botman is there to smash clear.

Minteh beats a sliding Burn to the ball and is in down the right. He chips the ball in for Kadioglu who can't get the ball under control to shoot and instead passes to Welbeck, who tees up Ayari, but the Sweden international curls it wide of the top left corner! Frustrating. That would have been a huge step towards three points had it gone in.

Woltemade heading over is the last action of the first half. Albion lead going in at the break.

Georginio is mobbed by his teammates after tracking back, tackling Gordon and seeing the ball deflect off the Newcastle man behind for a goal-kick. The fans loved that too.

Diego Gomez is replaced by Maxim De Cuyper. Looks as if he pulled something passing the ball a couple of minutes ago.

From a Newcastle set-piece, the ball is played out to the left for Gordon, who gets past Ayari and crosses for Botman, but the defender heads wide from ten yards or so.

Minteh spots the run of Gomez in behind and the Gambian looks for him. Pope rushes out to challenge the ball, with the Newcastle keeper and Gomez colliding. It should be a corner as Pope got the last touch, but Pawson gives a goal-kick.

Albion lose possession in midfield and for a moment it looks as if they're in, but Woltemade is halted in his tracks by a lovely interception from Lewis Dunk, winning the ball and sending the German to the ground.

Joelinton is nearly punished for an awful pass straight to Danny Welbeck on the edge of the Newcastle box. The striker rolls it to Georginio who shapes to shoot a few times before sending a low drive towards the bottom right corner, but Pope tips it around the post!

The former Newcastle man would love a goal today and he goes in search of one as he cuts across the edge of the box, but Guimaraes throws himself in front of the shot and blocks it. The two collide after and need a minute to get back to their feet.

Brilliant from the Cameroonian. He runs past two Newcastle players before seeing his strike from 20 yards blocked by the boot of Botman, sending it behind for a corner.

This is a bit frantic. Both teams seem to be cutting through each other's midfield with ease and then it's attack v defence. In this instance it's a Newcastle attack that sees Guimaraes fire wide from the edge of the area.

Yankuba Minteh gets a huge touch on the ball as he slides in to tackle Anthony Gordon. It's a good challenge. Craig Pawson gives a free-kick on the Albion right. No idea how that's a free-kick.

Here come the Albion. Lewis Dunk captains the hosts, while Bruno Guimaraes wears the armband for the Magpies. We've become accustomed to seeing Dan Burn in the Newcastle strip, but it's always worth noting his contribution in an Albion shirt. A great man, who has been recognised at international level since his move to St James' Park.
