Everton are riding out this Albion pressure as we look for a way back into this game. Minteh gets in down the right again and chips in a cross, but Tarkowski clears it out of his box.

Fabian Hurzeler makes two changes as Diego Gomez and Ferdi Kadioglu enter the pitch, replacing Maxim De Cuyper and Yasin Ayari.

James Garner falls to the ground while trying to tackle Minteh on the right. He tries to grab the ball but Yankuba still comes away with it, before Grealish slides in and puts it behind for a corner. The Everton defender goes into the book for the handball.

Yasin Ayari lets fly from the edge of the box with a stinging drive. Pickford is right behind it, but the ball is dipping and he can only push it back into the box. Albion look to make the most of the second phase of the attack, but Mitoma runs out of play with the ball on the left.

O'Riley plays a nice ball out to the right for Minteh. The winger gets down the right, puts a decent cross into the middle looking for Welbeck, but Tarkowski gets to it first and gets his head to it to flick it away!

The ball drops to the striker ten yards out, but he opts to pass it with Tarkowski seemingly blocking a path to goal. The pass doesn't have enough zip and it's intercepted.

But the Gambian can't pick out anyone in the middle and the attack comes to a stop. Plenty to take from that first half for Albion - a lot of chances, including two that hit the woodwork. All to play for.

We head in at the break a goal down.

That's an absolutely glorious opportunity for Matt O'Riley. He reads Tarkowski's pass back to Pickford and intercepts, he takes it around the keeper, but from a tight angle, has his shot saved by the England international. O'Riley can't believe it.

Mats Wieffer goes into the book now for a challenge on Jack Grealish. No Doubt the Dutchman is late, but a yellow card seems a bit harsh.

Iroegbunam goes in late on Ayari after the Swedish midfielder passed the ball. Yellow card.

VAN HECKE HITS THE POST! That's the second time this game the woodwork has denied Albion. van Hecke leathers it from 25-yards, Grealish gets a block on it but it looks as if it's curling in, only for it to smack the post and bounce away from goal!

Albion look to get level as Minteh gets down the right and finds Welbeck on the edge of the box. The striker is crowded out and has a shot deflected along the edge of the area which Ayari meets, but has his curler blocked by the sliding challenge of Iroegbunam.

Maxim goes into the book for a tussle with Ndiaye. It looks like the two are holding onto each other to be honest, but the Everton player goes to ground and get the decision.

Albion should have the lead. Minteh gets the better of Gueye on the right of the Everton box, picks out Welbeck four yards out, but it's behind the striker and he steers it over the goal! This is a good spell for Fabian Hurzeler's team.

MITOMA SMACKS A SHOT AGAINST THE BAR! A long ball downfield isn't controlled by Tarkowski and Mitoma is in. He has the Everton skipper for company, so Kaoru lifts the ball over him and smacks it on the volley from the left of the box, it hits the top of the crossbar and goes behind!

After early pressure from Everton, the game has settled now with Albion enjoying most of the ball. Yasin Ayari has a pop from 18 yards but it's straight down the throat of Pickford.

When Everton attack it is without question loud, but certainly it's quietened down since kick-off.

That's easy enough for Verbruggen after a good run from Ndiaye. The Everton forward skips past a tackle before looking to curl the ball in from the edge of the box, but it's got no sting on it and Bart gathers easily. Everton are enjoying the early possession.

This pre-match atmosphere is loud to say the least. The speakers are pretty much deafening which might be contributing. But you can tell the home crowd are up for this. Albion will be aiming to spoil what feels like a new era for the Toffees.

Having lost each of their first four Premier League away games against Everton, Brighton are now unbeaten in their last four visits (W3 D1). This will be the first ever competitive game at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium. Just one of the 10 clubs to have played at two different permanent home grounds in the Premier League have lost their first such game at their new home (W5 D4), with Southampton going down 2-0 to Chelsea at St Mary’s in August 2001. Brighton and Hove Albion’s first away Premier League game in 2024-25 saw them win 3-0 against Everton, while the Seagulls ended the campaign with two away wins on the bounce. They last won three away games in a row in January 2023, the third of which was away at Everton. Everton won their first home Premier League game in five consecutive seasons between 2017-18 and 2021-22 but they’ve lost their last three without scoring (0-1 v Chelsea in 2022-23, 0-1 v Fulham in 2023-24, 0-3 v Brighton in 2024-25). Everton lost 1-0 to Leeds on MD1 and have lost their first two games in each of the last three seasons. No team in English top-flight history has lost their first two matches in four seasons in a row (without a relegation between). Though Brighton had two of the five players who completed the most passes on MD1 of this season’s Premier League (Dunk 86, van Hecke 77) they actually had a lower possession figure (49.8%) than Fulham in their 1-1 draw, with Dunk and van Hecke making up 43.5% of Brighton’s passes in the game. Everton faced 21 shots in their opening Premier League match this season against Leeds, the most they’ve faced since David Moyes returned to the club in January. It was the most he’d faced in a league game since his final match for West Ham against Manchester City in May 2024 (28).
