Imari Samuels celebrates with Cam Peupion, having set him up to fire home.

Cam Peupion netted a hat-trick for the first time in his career on Sunday as his goals secured a fantastic win over league leaders Manchester City in Premier League 2.

The Australia under-23 international netted all three of Albion’s goals in the 3-2 win, a feat that he says has gone down as one of his best moments for the club – having also made his professional debut for us in the Carabao Cup earlier this season.

“It’s definitely up there as one of my best moments in an Albion shirt, but I am just buzzing that we got the win in the end.

“It’s a different feeling to making my first professional appearance for the club, but both moments are fantastic I am just super happy to have helped the team. I have never scored a hat-trick before so to get my first one against Manchester City who are top of the table isn’t bad.

The Aussie smartly fired home for his second goal of the day.

“My finishing is something that I have been working on all season, I’ve been putting good performances but I’ve wanted to get more goals and assists. That was the one thing my game was lacking, I needed to be more involved directly in goals.

“I’ve been working hard in training and the last two games it looks like it has paid off. I am buzzing.

“Manchester City are a really good team, so we should be really happy to come away with three points, we played really well.

“When this team sticks to the structure and the game plan and works super hard we can beat anyone in the league as we showed. We need to keep working hard and putting good performances in.”

Shannon Ruth’s team have found their form in PL2 in recent weeks, notching three wins in a four-game unbeaten run.

That sequence has come despite the likes of under-21 regulars Ed Turns, James Beadle, Jack Spong and Antef Tsoungui heading out on loan in January.

Cam Peupion made no mistake from close range to give Albion an early lead.

“The group is really tight and really together, it was a bit of a difficult period after a number of our senior players in the group went out on loan in January, we had a bit of a transition period.

“But we’re doing really well as a group and we’ve come together and put in some good performances – we’re in a great place.

“I have enjoyed being more of a senior player, it’s a different responsibility, but it’s a great team to be a part of.

“There are still a few games left until the end of the season so I have got to keep my head down and keep my form up, scoring goals and winning games.”
