The defender slotted home to put Orient in front at Crewe.

Ed Turns notched his first goal for Leyton Orient on Tuesday as they went seven points clear at the top of League Two with a win over Crewe Alexandra.

The 20-year-old joined the O’s on loan in January and has played the full 90 minutes in four of the five games he has been available, keeping three clean sheets.

He added to those shutouts last night with a 2-0 win over the Railwaymen, while he showed his composure to slot home the opening goal on the night.

Speaking to LeytonOrient.com, Ed said, “As you could probably see, I don’t score very often! But it’s my first for Leyton Orient and it counted towards a good result – I am really happy.

“It was a tough game, a tough place to go, a cold night up in Stoke – or near enough! We did what we needed to do, the gaffer set up a plan for us and we did what he asked of us.

“We didn’t try and play too much because of the pitch. We won, kept a clean sheet and I scored, you can’t ask for much more.”

The defender was thrown into the action by Orient boss Richie Wellens just a day after he signed, helping his team to a 0-0 draw with Barrow.

A 3-0 defeat to title challengers Stevenage was enough for Turns to be dropped for the following game against Tranmere, but the centre-back has shown his mettle and returned to the starting XI.

“There were tough games as soon as I arrived, I didn’t expect to play against Tranmere last week after we lost to Stevenage – but I’ve got back in the team and I’ve done well.

“It’s very different to under-21s football, lots of long balls and it’s a physical game. Game-by-game I am learning lots of different things.

“It’s good working with experienced players and they make my life easier. We work really well together, we’re always communicating. We’ve got a great keeper behind us as well. It shows in the clean sheets.”
