Pauline Bremer's cross found Elisabeth Terland for the opener.

Elisabeth Terland netted her 13th WSL goal of the campaign as Albion extended their unbeaten away league record to four games.

Mikey Harris made six changes to the side which lost against Everton at the Amex, but for long spells they looked the better of the two teams – playing an exciting brand of possession-based football that belied their current league position.

From the very first whistle, Albion made their intentions clear, with Geummin Lee shooting wide from 20 yards. They also won a dangerous free-kick inside the opening ten minutes, but with Maisie Symonds’s whipped effort cleared and Albion having committed players forward, Spurs broke through Charlotte Grant. The full-back showed her pace to hone in on goal but dragged her effort wide of the target.

Albion were also left to a rue a missed opportunity of their own in the opening stages when Terland found herself through on goal, only to be foiled by Spurs keeper Becky Spencer.

Elisabeth Terland netted her 13th WSL goal of the season in the first half.

It was a rare miss by the Norwegian but she was all smiles in the 17th minute when a sweeping move forward resulted in Pauline Bremer – who enjoyed plenty of space down the right flank all half – sending a pin-point cross into the box. Terland met the ball with a fine header and although Spencer did well to keep out the effort, Albion’s leading scorer made no mistake with the rebound.

Spurs probed for the equaliser, with Grant again foiled by the impressive Loeck – making her Albion debut – while Beth England brought another good save from the keeper, having been teed up by Jessica Naz.

Julia Zigiotti was replaced by Tatiana Pinto in the 39th minute, following a nasty clash of heads with Symonds, but it failed to knock Albion out of their stride with Lee seeing an effort blocked in injury time.

The second half started with Albion in the ascendancy, dominating possession and with Tottenham struggling to break out of their own half. Indeed, it forced Robert Vilahamn into a triple change in an attempt to liven his team up.

Elisabeth Terland's initial effort was saved, but the striker was first to the follow up to put Albion in front.

One of the subs, Kit Graham, drove wide with 72 minutes on the clock, but the Albion rearguard looked assured at this stage even with the hosts getting more of a foothold in the game.

With the minutes ticking by, Spurs began to break forward with more purpose and got their rewards with nine minutes remaining when another sub, Ash Neville, found space down the right. Her cross was met by the increasingly dangerous England, whose deft touch took the ball beyond Loeck.

Albion had hearts in mouths in injury-time when England saw a 20-yard header come back off the crossbar but as the final whistle blew, the initial disappointment would have been tempered by a feeling that the team are certainly heading in the right direction.

Albion: Loeck, Bremer, Thorisdottir, Bergsvand, Pattinson, Losada, Zigiotti (Pinto 39), Symonds, Lee (Mengwen 77), Terland (Kullberg 77), Haley (Robinson 68).

Unused subs: Baggaley, Sarri Carabali Stefanovic, Dent.
