WSL preview: Three return as Albion face Everton at the Amex

Albion return to the Amex on Friday for their penultimate WSL home match of the season when we take on Everton, kick off 7pm.

Interim head coach Mikey Harris said, “Playing at Amex is huge and training there earlier this week hopefully gives us a competitive advantage. We’re used to the surroundings and hopefully we’ll have a big crowd in to watch.

“I think it’s important for the club and women’s game in general that more and more games are being played at main stadiums, it helps accelerate the growth of the women’s game.

“We hope the players will enjoy performing our style of play at the Amex. Everton are a footballing team as well and it should make for an excellent advert for women’s football.”

Albion won 2-1 at Walton Hall Park on the opening day of the season thanks to goals from Elisabeth Terland and Katie Robinson.

Player to watch

Italian international Martina Piemonte joined Everton last summer and has scored two goals and provided an assist in 15 WSL games this season. The 26-year-old striker was considered a child prodigy in Italy, signing her first pro contract at the age of just 14.

She has played for several Italian clubs including Fiorentina, AS Roma and AC Milan as well as spells in Spain with Seville and Real Betis. She finished last season with 14 goals for Milan from just 24 appearances. A member of the squad which took part at Euro 2022, She won her first Italy cap in 2014 and has played more than 20 times for her country.

Albion are aiming to record a league double over Everton for the first time in the WSL whilst they have won three of their last five league games against the Toffees (D1 L 1).

Everton have won just one of their five away games in the Women's Super League against Brighton and Hove Albion (D2 L2), a 5-0 win in March 2021.

Albion have lost each of their last three WSL home games, last losing four in a row in the competition in the same season between October 2020 and January 2021.

Everton lost just one of their first five away WSL games this season (W3 D1) but have since lost four in a row, last suffering more consecutive defeats on the road in January 2019 (5).

Albion are unbeaten in their last two WSL games (Wl D1) and could go three without defeat in the top-flight for the first time since November 2021.

Everton have won fewer points from trailing positions than any other side in the WSL season (1) whilst overall the Toffees have won just three of their last 105 games in the competition when falling behind

Albion have scored eight goals in the final five minutes of WSL games this season, the joint-most of any side (level with Manchester United and Arsenal).

Elisabeth Terland has scored four of Albion's last six WSL goals against Everton while against no side has she scored more goals against than the Toffees in the competition ( 4 - level with Bristol City).

Everton's top goal scorers in the Women's Super League this season have scored fewer goals than any other team's leading goal getter, with Megan Finnigan and Aurora Galli netting just three times each. The Toffees and Brighton have had the joint-fewest different goal scorers in the WSL this campaign (8 each - level with West Harn and Manchester City).

Since the beginning of last season, Albion's Katie Robinson has been directly involved in at least six more WSL goals than any other player currently aged 21 or under (15 - 7 goals, 8 assists).
