Skipper says farewell to Albion

After five years at the club Albion skipper, Victoria Williams hung up her boots and brought her south coast journey to an end.

The defender was presented with a framed shirt after Saturday's game against Leicester City alongside Danielle Carter, Megan Walsh, Megan Connolly and Kayleigh Green as their teammates and staff formed a guard of honour to say farewell.

Williams took some time to reflect after her final 90 minutes as a Seagull and expressed her emotions about departing the club after making more than 100 appearances for us.

Williams signs for Albions 2018

She said, "If I go back to 2018 when I signed, I was wondering what I was going to do but I remember Amy Merricks calling and asking me to come down and visit the club. I had never even been to Brighton before, I went feet first into it and I've had the best five years of my career by far here.

"I'm so grateful for all the staff that I worked with, especially Hope Powell and Amy Merricks for all the work they put into me - they completely changed my game. I've had career highlights here and they put their trust in me, helped me develop not just as a player but as a person."

Defender celebrates 150 appearances for Albion

"I leave this club sad but so very grateful for the memories that I've created with my teammates and the fans. I feel so proud to be a part of the journey in the maiden voyage in the WSL. It's been a blast, and it'll be tough not to be here but as one chapter closes another opens."

Albion skipper passionate AITC ambassador

Victoria was a passionate supporter of the club’s charity, Albion In The Community, and she became an ambassador and was named Community Champion by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) this season.

She added, "I've just really bought into the club ethos here, it's completely changed me as a person. It means a lot to me to give back to the club on the pitch but also off of it and to support the people that support the club. It's been really humbling to be here.

"It was nice to see everyone and I'm so glad that it (final game) was at home, we wanted to make the most of the day and spend time with everyone. I couldn't have asked for a better send off."

"I've just loved it. It's been and absolute journey, it's not always been perfect and gone my way but I've never resented it. I think that's an amazing feeling to walk away from. I'm so grateful for the memories I made here, I'll take them with me for the rest of my life."
