2019/20 Season Stats
The 2019/20 season has proved to be a breakthrough campaign so far for Aaron Connolly, after achieving a number of milestones in the first three months of the season.
The Irishman scored his first senior goal in a 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers in the EFL Cup, and made his Premier League debut away at Manchester City in August. He subsequently went onto appear in the games against Burnley, Newcastle United and Chelsea, before netting his first two Premier League goals in a stunning 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in October.
The 19-year-old was subsequently fast-tracked into the Republic of Ireland senior squad, and made his senior debut as a 79th-minute substitute in a goalless draw away at Georgia, before earning his first start in a 2-0 defeat against Switzerland.
It sums up a rapid rise for Connolly, who arrived at Albion from Irish club Mervue United in 2016, and scored a brace on his first under-23 appearance in the 2016/17 season, and added further goals to his tally - with strikes against Southampton, Stoke City and Newcastle United.
He was handed his senior debut in the 1-0 victory over Barnet in the EFL Cup in 2017. The Irishman largely stayed with the under-23s that season, and hit double figures for Simon Rusk's side during the 2017/18 campaign, after scoring the second goal in their play-off final victory over Aston Villa.
Connolly opened the 2018/19 season in excellent form, as he scored the equalising goal for Albion against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
He went on to score 17 goals for Rusk’s team, including a hat-trick against MK Dons in the Checkatrade Trophy, which earned his the PL2 Player of the Season award.
Connolly also spent the final months of the season on loan at Luton Town, where he made two appearances for the Sky Bet League One champions.
The striker has also represented Republic of Ireland at under-17, under-18 and under-19 and under-21 level, before stepping up to the senior squad.
