The 2019/20 campaign proved to be Steven Alzate's breakthrough at Albion as he went onto make 19 Premier League appearances.

It has been an impressive rise to the first team for the midfielder, who arrived at the club in July 2017 from Leyton Orient, after making 12 appearances in League Two during the 2016/17 campaign.

Alzate scored a brace on his Albion debut against Shoreham, before also finding the back of the net against Fulham and Reading.

The versatile player made numerous appearances and helped Simon Rusk's team win promotion to the top flight of under-23 football in 2018.

Alzate then signed a loan deal with Swindon Town in Sky Bet League Two for the 2018/19 campaign, where he made 26 appearances at the County Ground, scoring three goals and claiming four assists.

As well as successfully making the step up to the first-team squad in 2019/20, the midfielder received his first call-up to the provisional Colombia squad for their friendlies against Peru and Bolivia in November, going onto make his debut against the former.

The 23-year-old's progression was rewarded with a new contract in July 2020, that runs until the end of the 2023/24 season.

His first goal for the club came in a 2-1 Emirates FA Cup win against Blackpool the following season, but it was somewhat overshadowed 11 days later, when his first Premier League goal secured a memorable 1-0 victory at reigning champions Liverpool.
