Roberto De Zerbi makes his point during the first half against Arsenal.

Roberto De Zerbi had no complaints after Albion went down 2-0 to Arsenal, admitting that the Gunners deserved to win.

Second-half goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz meant Albion slipped down to ninth in the table after failing to score in the Premier League for the first time since February.

He said, “I’m disappointed for the result, but we deserved to lose, Arsenal played much better than us and deserved to win. We defended well and fought in a good way but to be honest they played much better.”

Albion’s best chance came late on when Pascal Gross hit the side netting from close range while it was 1-0 to Arsenal.

“We had the chance to score in the second half and maybe the result could have been different but we didn’t deserve to make a point,” added De Zerbi. “Everything can be possible in football and when we lose points I am honest with my opinion.

Joao Pedro gets a shot away in the second half.

“We spent a lot of energy [beating Marseille] on Thursday, and we prepared for this game with one meeting so sometimes we have to be honest and congratulate Arsenal, they are the best team in the Premier League [so far] this season.

“I want to focus on what we have to do. I’m proud of my players, they fought like lions. We are not used to playing against this quality of opponent; we’re used to having more control, ball possession and chances to score. My players can play better but today was difficult.

“Have we lost to the title winners? It’s possible but we have to focus on our work and our target.”
