Melissa Phillips's team have won both of their Conti Cup matches so far this campaign.

Melissa Phillips says Albion's strength in depth was plain to see after their 3-1 win over West Ham in the Continental Tyres League Cup on Wednesday night.

A first-half header from Guro Bergsvand and two second-half penalties from captain Vicky Losada and Veatriki Sarri ensured they bounced back from their 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Women's Super League at the weekend.

While the hosts made seven changes from that defeat and the Hammers, who grabbed a late consolation through substitute Hawa Cissoko, made six alterations to their starting lineup - Albion's extra quality told.

"We've always known we have a really deep group so it's nice to see some faces in the lineup against another WSL side. Both sides made rotations but ultimately you can see how powerful the strength in depth we have is," said Phillips.

"I think we recognised the areas that we could exploit, we showed up in good spaces and I think the group that was on tonight (Wednesday) was incredibly creative. They worked well off each other in terms of [Geummin] Lee, Tatiana [Pinto], and Vea [Sarri] in the frontline in particular; when to come and when to go and they made it really hard for West Ham to make the right decision out of possession."

Phillips: We played excellent football

The result, which sent Albion three points clear at the top of their Conti Cup group with one match remaining, ensured Phillips' side kept up the momentum they had shown during creditable performances against Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Arsenal in recent weeks.

But, the Albion boss made it clear that her team will not be resting on their laurels when they take on Liverpool in the WSL on Sunday.

"I think we played some excellent football tonight (Wednesday), created a lot of chances, had a couple of really good moments that led to the penalties and the first goal so I am really pleased with the group throughout," she said.

"You could tell we've been playing against really high-level opposition over the last four matches because of the speed of play and our recognition of pressure in time and space was really good.

"I think bouncing back from the Arsenal loss was the most important thing. We felt it could have been a closer game on the weekend, we built a bit of confidence and belief on the ball and got a little bit of momentum back and it will be important that we take that into the weekend - that is our full focus from here."
