Roberto De Zerbi and Joel Veltman talk to the media ahead of Ajax's visit on Thursday.

Albion host Ajax on Thursday in Matchday 3 of the Europa League at the Amex. We have picked up a point from our first two games against AEK Athens and Marseille while Ajax are on two points after draws with those two clubs.

Team news

Roberto De Zerbi revealed in his press conference on Wedneday that Solly March and Danny Welbeck both miss out. "Solly has a very tough injury and we will lose him for a long period, Welbeck the same. We have to move on, work harder and find a different solution."

Roberto's thoughts ...

"It is important to win tomorrow, for the players. We have to try to win every game. In the Europa League we have six games and if we want to finish in first place we have to win. We have a positive mentality, we have to play showing the quality of the players and the play which got us into Europe.

"The history of Ajax is incredible. They are in a difficult moment. But every year they play in Europe and play three games a week during this period. But it is football - if you are better[on the day] you will win the game whether you have the history or not. But we know it will be very difficult.

"The fans don't need to listen to me. They are very important for my players. They understand the moment we are in but I know they will be proud of the players, who are working harder than last season because they want to compete in the Brighton way in every game. We're sad when we lose, we want to make our fans happy whatever the competition."

Former Spurs player Steven Bergwijn is Ajax's captain and record signing.

Steven Bergwijn is a familiar name to Albion fans from his spell with Spurs when he made over 60 appearances between 2020-22. Bergwijn operates on the left-hand side of midfield or further forward and when he joined Ajax last July he became their record signing at nearly £30m. Bergwijn made his Netherlands debut in 2018 and has gone on to win 30 caps.
