Billy Gilmour says Albion are focused on getting their first Europa League win on Thursday.

Billy Gilmour is preparing for another tough match in Europe this week after enjoying his last foray onto the continent with Scotland.

The 22-year-old scored his first international goal seven days ago when the Tartan Army faced France in Lille, and despite going on to lose 4-1 Billy loved the experience with his country.

“It was a good trip.” said the midfielder. “Obviously the result didn’t show that, but I love going away with Scotland. It’s always an honour and I was delighted to get my first goal.”

“Our aim all along was to qualify for the Euros and we’ve done that. We did it with two games to spare with a great team and great players. Even against France, we played some really nice football.

“We can work on things, like the set plays we conceded, but there is definitely something special going on with Scotland at the moment.

“I love the group. The manager and the boys are top and there is a real togetherness.”

It’s European football for club, not country, next for Billy and he knows Ajax will prove to be a tough test like the star-studded France side he faced last week.

He said, “It will be a difficult game. Ajax are another top team we have got to play against and we will be ready.

“We want to do well in the competition. We are playing top teams and big players on a massive stage. This is the Europa League, it’s where we want to be.

“We need to make sure we do as well as we can for ourselves first and then for the fans, of course, who travel everywhere to support us and get behind us at the Amex too.”
