Solly March had the job of keeping Mo Salah quiet on Sunday.

Solly March reckons the opening 40 minutes of our 2-2 draw against Liverpool saw the best football we’ve played this season.

Simon Adingra put us ahead with an intelligent finish from range midway through the first half, before a five-minute lapse just before half-time saw us concede two costly goals.

March: I enjoyed marking Salah!

“I think the first 40 minutes was up there with one of our best spells of the season, but it comes down to managing the game,” Solly said. “With five minutes to go until half-time you want to go in 1-0 up. Going down 2-1 was a bit of a killer to be honest, so to get back into the game – and with chances to win at the end – it was a good point ultimately.

“To be in the top six, in Europe and playing all these extra games… I don’t think we’ve even reached our full potential yet or even played as well as we did last year at times. So we’re just going to get better. We’ll keep training hard, managing the games and I think we’ll be even better for that.”

The 29-year-old provided the assist for Lewis Dunk to equalise, crossing in from a free-kick he had won on the left flank.

“To be fair, Dunky came up to me and said for me or Pascal to take the free-kick. He wanted an outswinger hit into that gap and luckily enough it went straight through and I think it hit his heel and went in the far corner – they all count!”

With Pervis Estupinan, Tariq Lamptey and James Milner all missing through injury, Solly was called into play at left-back against the Reds.

“It was probably around two years ago [that I last played left-back]. I was excited to play there. It’s a challenge and obviously you want to play against the best and (Mohamed) Salah is one of the best right wingers in the world, so it was a challenge but I enjoyed it thoroughly.”
