Mark O'Mahony will be hoping to continue his goalscoring form on Friday night against Derby County.

Mark O’Mahony admits he’s in the form of his life after his electric start to the Premier League 2 campaign.

The Irishman has six goals in five league matches so far this season, as well as three assists.

“This is my best ever form, 100%,” The Republic of Ireland Under-19 said. “I was saying to a couple of the lads that I don’t think I’ve got three assists in a whole season, never mind this early in the year! I want to kick on and carry on what I am doing.”

The 18-year-old will be aiming to continue his fine form when Shannon Ruth’s team face Derby County on Friday night at Alfreton Town FC.

“As a striker you always have that pressure on you to score goals, but I am a relaxed person and now I’ve got that bit of confidence it boosts me. It helped scoring in the first game of the season.

“It’s only the start of the season, so the biggest thing is to carry it on and if I do that I give myself the best opportunity to get a chance with the first team. But I'm staying grounded.

“In the off season I worked hard on certain stuff. I have to give thanks to my teammates because without them I don’t get the goals – it’s a collective effort. There’s a long way to go, but I am delighted with how things are going.”

O’Mahony would no doubt love to emulate fellow Irishman Evan Ferguson’s rise to the first team, having already had the opportunity to train with the first team.

“The levels are a lot higher," he added. "It’s tough and a big difference from under-21s football when you’re coming against the likes of Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk and Igor, who is massive! But it only helps you develop you in a positive way.

“You look at the players who have proved themselves in the academy and got their chance with the first team, hopefully at some point I get that opportunity."
