Mengwen ready for the WSL with Albion.

We are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Li Mengwen after the expiration of her contract with Chinese club Jiangsu, subject to the usual regulatory processes.

Women’s first-team head coach Melissa Phillips said, “Li is a fantastic signing to join our squad this pre-season.

“Her experience as a player and individual will add depth to the squad as we continue to build our identity both on and off the pitch.

“Her knowledge of the game at domestic and international level will be incredibly beneficial to our team.

“She’ll be a key figure within our backline as we continue to solidify our defence ahead of another competitive WSL season.”

New signing Li Mengwen.

Li began her career at Jiangsu and competed in the Chinese Super League where she won the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and the Yongchuan Tournament.

After a successful spell in China, she went on loan to PSG last season where she featured in the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Wolfsburg.

Li Mengwen is looking forward to her first taste of the WSL.

During her time in Paris, she was part of the squad that were runners up in the Feminine Division 1 and Coupe de France Fèminine.

At international level, Li has been capped from U17s up to the senior squad and she represented China at the Women’s World Cup in Australia this summer.
