Albion came from behind to beat Spanish top-flight club Sporting de Huelva in the first of two friendlies during their pre-season training camp.
In draining heat, an own goal and a second-half strike from Pauline Bremer secured a 2-1 win for Melissa Phillips’s side.
Bremer was one of three new signings in the starting XI alongside Charlie Rule and Vicky Losada with another, Mackenzie Hawkesby, coming on at the break.
Elisabeth Terland went close on a couple of occasions early on before Huelva went in front with a penalty.
But under pressure from Vea Sarri, a Huelva defender scored an own goal to make it 1-1 at the break. Albion got stronger as the game wore on and Bremmer won the game with a powerful shot. Albion’s defence then stood firm to protect their 2-1 lead.
Phillips said, “We were really clear about our objectives going into the game, building fitness levels individually and collectively and executing our identity in and out of possession. We created some really good chances and showed our adaptability when we had the ball.
"The players did a superb job and there’s a lot for us to build on. There’s a different sense with the senior players driving standards and that is definitely something we can build on. We have another game on Saturday which means a quick turnaround and a test for our resilience.”
