Moises Caicedo signed a new contract with Albion earlier this year that runs until 2027, with a club option for an extra 12 months.

Chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber says he’s looking forward to Moises Caicedo starting the season next week when Albion face Luton Town at the American Express Stadium.

Speaking ahead of today’s final pre-season fixture against Rayo Vallecano he said, “Moises had a slight hamstring injury late in training and was pulled out for that reason.

“With a Premier League season just a week away it makes no sense to risk him today.

“We’re looking forward to Moises starting the season with us, he’s a Brighton player under a long-term contract.

Moises won both our Men's Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season at our 2022/23 Players' Awards.

“He’s probably one of the most exciting young midfield players in the world at the moment and we’re delighted to have him.”

He also confirmed Albion are still looking to further strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

“We’ve always got our eyes on improving the squad wherever we can, we’re in a good position, we’ve got a good squad, we’re looking forward to the season.

“All the players are fit and well, with the exception of Moises. We’re looking forward to today’s friendly and then preparing for Luton’s visit next week.”

Meanwhile Paul wished departing goalkeeper Roberto Sanchez well, following his transfer to Chelsea, which was confirmed on Saturday.

“Rob is a relatively young goalkeeper that wants to play first-team football and wants to challenge to start in a first-team and he believes that Chelsea will give him that opportunity.

“After nearly a decade here we wish him the best. He’s been very popular around the club and we wish him well for the future.”
