Vicky Losada has previously played for Barcelona over three separate stints.

New Brighton signing Vicky Losada is one of the most technically gifted footballers in the world.

That is according to Marc Andrés of Catalunya Radio, who has followed the career of the Spanish international, now an Albion player after signing from Roma in July.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed a glittering career, winning the Champions League with Barcelona, a host of league and domestic silverware with the Catalan giants, and trophies with Arsenal and Manchester City – but she is not done yet.

The midfielder, who was also part of the Spain squad that won the Algarve Cup in 2017, still has a great deal to offer Albion.

The midfielder won the Champions League in 2021 with Barcelona.

“Brighton are getting a really experienced player, who knows how to play in any situation and has come out on top in clutch moments,” he said.

“From what I have seen, Vicky Losada has more or less the same strengths as top players such as Aitana Bonmati or Alexia Putellas; namely good touch, the ability to attack the box from the midfield, great vision and the capacity to organize the field in front of her."

According to Andres, Losada, who has 67 Spanish caps to her name, is something of a trailblazer amongst her compatriots having played in America with Western New York and plying her trade in England and Italy, too.

Those experiences have allowed the versatile midfielder - who also won the league title with Roma last season - to become a better player and now she can pass on that wisdom to her new Brighton teammates.

“Vicky was one of the first known Spanish women to play abroad. She played in the National Women’s Soccer League in 2014 and then with Arsenal in 2015,” he said. “This was because the game in Spain hadn’t grown as it has now.

“When she came back to Barcelona for the third time in 2016, she was a huge boost to the team and helped them grow. She was one of the best players then and this is where she has shown her best football.

“Her talent and tactical knowledge are beyond doubt. Her best position is as a six or an eight, where she can pick her spots to read between the defensive lines and do damage with the ball at her feet or with a key pass.

“As she has the tactical knowledge, she can also play in the defensive midfield role but that is not her strongest position. If she can stay healthy, Brighton have a very good player in Losada.”
