Roberto De Zerbi says Albion fans can play a massive part at the Amex today.

Roberto De Zerbi has called on Albion fans to play their part as the push for Europe continues today.

Albion take on Southampton at a sold-out Amex knowing that victory will guarantee a first appearance in European football.

“Today is the only game in our head,” said the head coach. “To qualify for Europe we have to win two games and we need our fans, they have to help us and are crucial - if we win we win together.

“We are pushing to achieve one historic target which is more than we imagined four or five months ago. It’s a very tough period because we are not used to playing this number of games but when you have one dream you have a big motivation, and you push together to work towards the target.”

De Zerbi agrees that taking Albion into Europe would be his best achievement as a head coach.

“Yes, 100% but not only for me," he said. "This is more important than your salary, career or the big team you could play or coach in the future. It’s priceless, because we know all the people around the club and the fans are dreaming – and that’s the nicest thing that can happen in football.

The players can play in big teams in the future but there is no bigger target than getting into the Europa League with Brighton. In 25 years, we will all come back to Brighton and be remembered for a historic result if we reach our target.”

Southampton may be relegated but De Zerbi is not underestimating their threat. “They scored three goals at Arsenal and have made many points away so I expect a very tough game.”
