Roberto De Zerbi was happy to see his side take a point from Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Brentford thanks to Alexis Mac Allister’s last-minute penalty.
Albion had only conceded one Premier League goal at home in 2023 but they trailed three times at the Amex but Kaoru Mitoma and Danny Welbeck were also on target.
The point lifted Albion above Liverpool into sixth place in the table with a trip to Bournemouth to come on Tuesday.
“It’s a great point because football can be like this,” said De Zerbi. “We have had I don’t know how many shots in two games with Brentford, but at the end one point.

“I thought we played in a fantastic way and I was really pleased with the performance. But we showed a lot of character and I love the players, this team, although we conceded three goals which was incredible so we have to improve in these situations.
“It’s impossible not to concede goals. They scored from two set pieces which is difficult to understand but the trend of the game was in our direction and in the last minutes [when it was 3-3] I thought we might win. Brentford are a tough team but I think we can get into Europe.”
Goalkeeper Jason Steele claimed an assist for Mitoma’s goal when his pass was converted by the winger, who became the highest scoring Japanese player in a single Premier League season with seven goals.
“We worked on that situation so it was good to score,” added De Zerbi.
