Moises Caicedo runs over to celebrate with Kaoru Mitoma after the Japan international scored against West Ham.

Moises Caicedo says his relationship with Roberto De Zerbi was a big factor in his decision to sign a new contract last week.

The 21-year-old committed his future to Albion until summer 2027 and says his head coach’s advice was important when he made his decision.

“I am very happy working with him and he has helped me a lot since he arrived,” Moises said. “I am very grateful to him for everything that he does for me in every game and training session.

“It’s all about the details with him. Maybe I’ll complain when he asks me to do something, but ultimately I know that what he’s saying will help a lot in the future. He is doing it for my benefit more than anything else.”

De Zerbi believes that it was vital that Caicedo stayed with the club.

“I was honest with him [about staying] and I told him what was my opinion. I spoke with him about my vision, but not for my interest or for the club, but for his.

Roberto De Zerbi was pleased to see Moises Caicedo commit his future to Albion.

“I spoke like a father because he is young and I have two children who are almost the same age. I feel I can help my players and that is my job.

“You have to trust in your player, you have to believe in him. You have to give him your opinion to make the right decision.

“For him, it was important to stay at least another six months, I hope another few years. But first to finish this season with his teammates and the club.”
