Megan Connolly reflected on yesterday's tough 6-2 defeat against Aston Villa when the visitors scored five first-half goals after Julia Zigiotti put Albion ahead.

Following last week's positive 1-1 draw away to Villa in the WSL, Jens Scheuer's side were eager to carry momentum into this home match and were on track to do so with Zigiotti's opening goal just two minutes in.

However, Villa fought back instantly and took all three points thanks to their dominant display at the Broadfield Stadium.

"Everyone is disappointed especially after last week. We'd had a good week's training and were ready for the game," Connolly said.

"The early goal gave us a bit of energy, but they then came back with two quick goals which killed it straight away.

"The first half they dominated and we struggled to get control, it was an uphill battle really.  We were a bit better in the second half, the fight was there but the quality on the ball didn't really work. It didn't go our way but we have to learn from it and move on after the international break.

Albion remain tenth in the WSL table, just two points off the bottom above Leicester and Reading.

The Irish midfielder recognised the squad's current position and believes the international break will provide time for the team to reflect and prepare for a tough run of fixtures when they return to WSL action next month, starting with a trip to champions Chelsea.

She added, "The position we're in at the minute we can't really get our heads down too much, we have to keep going.

"I think everyone just needs a bit of head space and to go and do their camp, represent their countries and be ready to go again when we come back. We have to reflect individually and as a team, and when we come back for the FA Cup game against Coventry United we have to be on the same page."
