Head coach Jens Scheuer felt Albion took a step forward despite being knocked out of the Continental Tyres League Cup on Wednesday.
Albion won the penalty shootout 3-0 after Megan Walsh saved all three West Ham spot-kicks but the point the Hammers picked up from the 0-0 draw after 90 minutes sealed their spot in the quarter-finals.
It was a big improvement on Scheuer’s first game on Sunday when Albion lost 3-0 to Leicester City in the WSL.
The head coach said, “I think we did really well. We have a lot of players with minor injuries so the squad was really small but I am satisfied with the performance. We won the penalty shootout, and all of the players were fighting until the end. We have taken a good step in the right direction. You can see that we were a team on the pitch.”
Scheuer switched to a 3-5-2 formation and was pleased his team kept a clean sheet.
“The focus before the game was on the defence. West Ham didn’t create many big chances, they were as a result of mistakes we made but we had the first big chance through Guro [Bergsvand], which was one of the biggest in the game.
“After 70 minutes we looked a bit tired so we have to work on playing with full focus for 90 minutes, but every day is a learning day for me and it was good to see the team wanted to change the mentality, compared to Sunday.
"We are not in the best situation with the squad [in terms of injuries] and we have to prepare for a third match in a week on Sunday against Arsenal. But I was really satisfied with the performance and I know that when everyone is healthy we will have a strong squad and can play more in the style I want us to play."
