Adam Webster returned to first team action as a substitute in the 5-1 win at Middlesbrough.

Adam Webster believes the Albion men’s first team has never been in a better place.

The 28-year-old was reflecting on Roberto De Zerbi’s first four months at the club and the progress they have made under the Italian head coach.

“Roberto is key [to our success],” Adam said. “They are his ideas and we work on them so thoroughly through the week, drilling the same messages. You can see them coming through.

The defender has made 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

“The control when we have the ball, I don’t think many teams can do that. It’s a joy to be a part of and it’s the sort of team you want to be a part of. It is developing us as players so quickly and I think we’re going to get better and better.

“It’s been a positive start. We would have been happy with where we are now at the start of the season but we know we can improve and go toe-to-toe with anyone in the league.”

Adam reckons the senior players have played huge roles in getting the squad to where they are now.

“You can see that everyone is so hungry and wants to be playing. That drives the standards up every day. We’ve got so many leaders; people like Pascal [Gross], [Adam] Lallana and Jason Steele. They’re pushing us every day so that’s going to make everyone improve.”

FA Cup Highlights: Middlesbrough 1 Albion 5

The former Bristol City defender made his return from injury in the 5-1 win against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Saturday, after missing our last four Premier League games.

“I was delighted to be back out there and to get some minutes into the legs. It’s been a frustrating period, but I can look forward now.

“I didn’t miss a game until Villa then I had Covid and was ruled out then I picked up the [calf] injury when we were in Dubai. I was playing week-in, week-out, so now it’s about trying to get back to that level as quickly as possible.”
